Cities 97.1 presents FeBREWary live at Utepils Brewing! EVERY Thursday in February enjoy a good brew and live music in the Utepils Taproom from 4:00-6:00pm all hosted by Paul Fletcher

This Thursday's featured performer: Patrick Martin

Patrick Martin exudes the irresistible energy of an artist born to be center stage at sold-out arenas. It would be easy to assume he had been born that way, spending his youth taking every opportunity to flaunt his talents. On the contrary, he started our refusing to share his music outside the four walls of his bedroom. "Music was precious to me and gave me presence in my anxious mind, so sharing it with anyone seemed to take that away. I felt like the songs that I had written were only for the person who inspired them," Martin says, laughing.

Times have changed: these days, the Los Angeles-based singer is beyond ready to play his music for everyone. Martin retains that sense of just-you-and-me intimacy in the eight songs on his upcoming Glassnote Records EP, Velvet Time, and pairs it with irresistible hooks and a pulsing alt-pop sensibility that feels built for big moments. Lead single Dandelion Eyes sets the tone, with layers of kaleidoscope vocals soaring over a mix of synthesizers and guitars, all held together by a propulsive beat that won't take sitting still for an answer. Recorded with contributors including the producers Nick Lobel (Harry Styles, Leon Bridges) and Tim Pagnotta (Walk the Moon, Neon Trees), Velvet Time is the work of a budding artist who has figured out what he wants to say, and how to say it.

This Thursday's featured performer: Mat Kearney

Unexpected moments often yield the most beautiful results. That's how Mat Kearney arrived at his sixth album, January Flower, a collection of honest, stripped down songs that brings the Nashville-based, Oregon-born musician back to his singer-songwriter roots.

January Flower recalls Kearney's early work on his gold-selling album Nothing to Lose, veering in a different direction from his 2018 album CRAZYTALK. The album was also inspired by his acoustic tour in February 2020 to promote the 10th Anniversary of City Of Black & White, which was the last time Mat was on the road before the pandemic.

His vast touring history, which includes treks with John Mayer, Sheryl Crow and NEEDTHBREATHE, is evident in the vibrancy of the songs, as is his enduring success as a recording artist. Kearney has released five albums in the Billboard Top 200, with three in the Top 20, and has seen his songs placed on shows like Grey's Anatomy, 30 Rock, and NCIS. Overall he has over 2.5B global streams. Check out more from Mat on his website.

This Thursday's featured performer: Harbor & Home

Harbor & Home is a Minneapolis-based rock band directed by lead singer Kaleb Williams. Described as having a “classic, emotionally gratifying sound that [transcends] time and place,” their music is a blend of roots Americana and classic rock n’ roll.

The band released their debut album, Dark Days, in 2014, and their fan favorite record “Summer Lover” has more than 14 million streams on Spotify. They’re known for their organic instruments and raw vocals — no frills, no tricks.

Harbor & Home’s latest EP, Change, presents the band’s shift toward country, with lyrics that hold deep and honest reflections about life and loss. Alyce Lindberg of Rising Artists writes, “You’ll be drawn in by the catchy melodies and organic feel, then stay for the gritty, emotive vocals.”

Over the past decade, the group has toured the country, opening for acts like Dean Lewis, NEEDTOBREATHE, Jeremy Messersmith, Eric Hutchinson, Mark Chesnutt, FLOR, From Indian Lakes, and Austin Plaine.

Jake and Travis of A Piano in Every Home taught each other how to make music. The group started in Wisconsin, evolving over the years and finally finding a more permanent home in the Twin Cities, MN. Opening for the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Dessa, the band's sound can be best described as an eclectic fusion of indie folk, alternative rock, and atmospheric pop. You can check out more from the band on their website.
